HOW DOES ONE KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN? (guest post!)

Hey everyone! Tonight's post is a guest post by the boy. I lost my voice this morning and have been a gross coughing mess since *pulls face*. The boy kindly offered to "guest post" and keep you entertained whilst I recover. I hope you like his post!

-------------------------------------------
I started to go into make-up stores ever since I've been with HellCandy. I have been in many stores now and still find the process of choosing make-up very confusing.

I know that MAC is very popular but don't really understand why it is so superior to many other brands. I love the way its packaging looks but that is not a reason to buy makeup (I also like how the YSL and Chanel lipstick packaging looks but don't tell anyone that as my manly image might be damaged a little :)).

When walking into a makeup store it feels like I'm walking into an art store with many tools and colours to create the look you want. But people that go into art stores are usually art students or professional artists who have studied art and understand what they are doing.

How can you do the same in a make-up store when you haven't studied make-up beauty. I mean with all those shades, brushes, brands etc how do you know where to begin?

Also how can you trust what the people working there say when all they care about is making a sale and/or getting a commission?

Also how can you test the products when sooo many people use the store samples - do you want to risk getting a rash or cold sore for a bit of make-up?

Finally can you trust what a magazine says given that they advertise make-up and want to have a good relationship with the make-up companies?

I guess it's a process of trial and error and experimenting that helps you learn. But that could take long and be expensive. I don't know.

Is there some other way that girls know how to choose make-up?

  2. That's what blogs are for... Reviews by real people help!

  3. Trial and error! I never test products left on the shelves in Boots but will test something if it's higher-end (probably makes me a snob) and if the make-up lady (or once in my case, man) scrapes off what was used before trying it on me.
And I prefer to use blogs like this one :) for recommendations and photos, as magazines tend to overhype stuff and touch-up the make-up's effects.

  6. So many common-sense questions! I think trial and error is about right - over years and years in most cases. These days, online reviews help a lot.
