JUNE INS & OUTS

After a bit of pondering, (mostly whether I could actually think of enough ins and enough outs!) I've decided that I'm going to join the band wagon and start doing the whole "ins & outs" post :)

INs

Getting comments from far off places
I LOVE receiving genuine comments from everyone and I particularly get excited when someone tells me they come from overseas i.e Denmark ;) It's great to get comments from overseas readers and really encourages me to keep posting. Am touched!

Sunshine!
I am far from a sun worshiper (factor 50+ for me!), but I am really loving all this positive sunny weather we've been having here in the UK. Everyone in London is so happy right now.

Celebrating my birthday with friends & family (finally)
After spending my birthday working away from home and nearly missing the Eurostar back, I spent Saturday lunchtime with family and my evening on a hillside meadow enjoying the fine weather with wine and cider. Bliss.

Owning a watch!
The boy bought me a white Toy watch for my birthday and I am really enjoying wearing one again. This might kick start a love of watch collecting...*peers at watch strapped to wrist in awe*

A new flat!
The boy and I have been looking for flats and we have finally found one in central London. It's SOOOO nice! Am so surprised that we managed to find such a cute flat as there are some absolute HORRORS out there. Moving in this weekend...exciting!

Clearer skin
I have really struggled with congested and lumpy skin for an age now. I think I might finally be breaking the cycle with a few new products...keep your eyes peeled for the blog reviews!

OUTS

Lack of sleep
I am getting so frustrated with being constantly tired. Waking up each morning and thinking I could do with another 4 hours sucks.

No holiday plans :(
I am getting to that stage where my body and mind are both screaming silently for a holiday. I need a week away to just recharge. Unfortunately this won't be happening for a while yet.

Gel eyeliner
It's too hot to wear it. My mac fluidline is blotting itself on my lower lash line...so not attractive. To combat this I have reverted back to my Urban Decay perversion liquid eyeliner. Problem solved.

Bloating
I am feeling like a beached whale right now...I am on my period. Enough said.

SPAM ON MY BLOG
ARGHHH!!! My blog has become a target for porn and false advertising. I am starting to think switching to pre-mod was the best thing ever.

SUPER CHEAP & SUPER EFFECTIVE CLEANSER!

OK so the last cleanser I bought was Eve Lom. It cost me a stupid amount *slaps back of hand*

SOOO NOT WORTH IT!

It started off AMAZING and then slowly decided to clog my pores and ruin me.

I really HATE shopping for cleansers as nine times out of ten they absolutely suck.

A few weeks ago I decided to check out the Boots original beauty formula range.Coming from the old archives of Boots the range features pretty unique vintage packaging to compliment the original classics.

Originally I wanted to get the cold cream but when I noticed the ingredients contained petroleum (ARGHHH!) I opted for the geranium cleansing milk.

Costing a mere £3.89 with the bonus of "buy one get one free" I wasn't expecting much, but after using this product for just over 2 weeks I have really noticed a difference in my skin.

It's really great at removing the grim from my skin, leaving it soft and supple afterwards. It's also helped to clear my complexion up but I do think it's a combination of this and some other skin products I have recently been using (blog review to follow shortly!).

I also love that it removes waterproof mascara! I tend to always favour products that can remove all my make up in one as I cannot be bothered with all the fussing of cleanser for this, cleanser for that...erugh.

The smell of this product is also another bonus. It's a delicate floral scent but just such a pleasure to use. Whilst I dislike strong scents, zero scent just doesn't make me enjoy the product. It's a bit boring when there is no scent no?

I use this product by simply applying a generous amount all over my face and then dip two cotton pads in warm water and use them to wipe the cleanser and any grim off. I then finish off with my Liz Earle toner (love!). I usually prefer wash off cleansers but this method is quick and easy, plus I get to literally see the dirt coming off.

The one gripe I have though is the bottle. As pretty as it is, it would be great if this had a pump or something. It's just a tad inconvenient to disperse the cleanser.

All in all I am really happy with this cleanser! It's SOOOO cheap and so effective.

Having said that I have got my eyes on the Soap and Glory Hot cleanser. Cheaper version of Cleanse and Polish? I'm up for a bit of that!

Which are your favourite cheap cleansers? Leave a comment and share :)

BEAUTY PRODUCT MARKETING FAIL

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few days. I was in Paris for work. Unfortunately didn't get to see hardly anything of the city but it was nice to see what I did (no time for make up shopping *sniff*)

Tonight's a bit of a rant...

I love receiving comments on my blog posts, but lately I have been getting porn (as I blogged about) and more recently it has been product plugging.

That's all cool and everything, it is a beauty blog after all. But I have been getting a steady stream of comments from "people" raving about the miracle wonders of a certain lash serum.

I accepted a few until I noticed that it seemed like the PR & marketing team were the ones behind it (similar tactics to music street teaming).

PLUS...the obvious giveaway is when you start getting comments about THE product for posts that have absolutely nothing to do with lash growth products...

I dunno...here are the examples for you to ponder over:

"I recently got eyelash extensions. One eye is doing well, the other eye is losing eyelashes. I started using ********* and have definitely noticed longer lashes. But the seem so light and soft textured. I love it!"

"Hi Timmy! I have been using ******** too for almost a year now and not encountered any discomforts of irritations. I just noticed my lashes enhancing naturally fuller, thicker and stronger. One thing I found out when I surfed their site, I was really impressed with how the care for cancer patients. Give it a try. I love ********.I have not tried other brand. What can you claim on other brands?"

"Woaah! Many of us here are really experiencing how amazing ********* is! Well to share, I am so thankful to this ******** eyelash conditioner. It really made my brittle lashes naturally looking fuller, darker and healthier. Great product!"

"Perfectly sexy. That's how I described myself if I use ********* brow and match it with their mascara too.. Perfect combination!"

"It is amazing what a difference lashes make to your face… I started using ********** last March and I get comments all the time. People say my eyes look more beautiful and I look more awake or they aren’t sure what is different but they know I look good!!"

"I too suggest that you try ********* and see the difference.I have tried other products and only ********* gave me these amazing results. I don't know about falling lashes, I too read a lot of reviews and never came cross such".

.................

So yeah! Apologies if these are real comments but they made me a bit suspicious (profiles said joined this month or were not viewable). Don't ask me who the hell Timmy is, there wasn't a lot of people raving about said product already & don't even get me started on the cancer patients bit.

Also...may I also point out that I have never once mentioned this particular product in a blog post so yeah...
It all smells like a PR campaign gone OTT & makes me question whether the said product actually works given all this questionable plugging.

I just think if your product truly is incredible then the genuine comments and feedback should speak the volumes for you. If you genuinely believe in the product you are selling and want to see blog coverage on it, heck send the item in for a review. If it's as good as you claim it is then you shouldn't have a problem.
I just don't like all this suspiciously over inflated kudos that's happening.

GAH! Has anyone else had this kind of marketing fail spam all over their blog? If so I want to know about it! Leave a comment and share yours with me...and I swear if I get another dodgy plugging comment to THIS post...heck you're asking for it. If you're that daft I'll frikking well publish it for you...and you KNOW who you are!

BOOT SALE BARGAINS!

Good evening all.

How was everyones weekend?

I spent my Sunday morning trawling around a local bootsale in the hunt for useful stuff. You see, I am moving in with the boy next month & we have started browsing bootsales for anything appropriate for our new flat.

The useful stuff resulted in a mere stainless steal colander for the bargain price of 50p.

However...the beauty related stuff was far more successful!

Despite stupidly NOT buying the ltd edition white GHDs for £20 (used but with box) I did manage to find lots of nail polish.

First I found OPIs "Sea?I told you so" & later found a load more from another seller including the following:

OPI ds "passion"
OPI "I'm yours"
OPI "Midnight blue glitter"
Chanel "Black Satin"
Ciate "Shaken not Stired"

Anddddd last but not least...OPI ds in "Royal"!!!

You have NO idea how much I have lusted after this shade. I point blank refused to pay the extortionate eBay prices; so pretty much ruled this polish off, so imagine my surprise when I found it in a bootsale!

In total all the polishes cost me £6. Bargain!

So yes. I might start going to more & will report back on what else I find :)

What's been your best bargain? Would love to know!

CHAMPAGNE, MACARONS & MAKE UP...BY TERRY SPACE NK EVENT!

Hey everyone!

Today I attended the Space NK By Terry event which was so much fun!

Fellow Brit make up lover (and one of my enablers), Lollipop26, recently mentioned the event was coming up on her blog and after a bit of procrastinating I decided to go.

I've only ever tried a handful of By Terry items with both from the skincare side so I was very curious about the make up.

I arrived in the afternoon and the event was in full swing with champagne flowing, Laduree macarons aplenty, and lots of pampered ladies having their make up applied by perfectly groomed make up artists.

I was asked by the make up artist (can't remember her name!) what look I would like to go for and I told her I was open to anything. Part of me was curious to see what they thought would suit me :P

My skin was cleansed, toned and plumped with serum and primed ready for my personal consultation with the lady herself, Terry De Gunzburg.

Terry is absolutely lovely. Incredibly enthusiastic and passionate about make up and advised the make up artist to give me glowing skin with rosy peach cheeks, peachy pink eyeshadow with purple shadow on my lower water line, pink glossy lips...and NO FOUNDATION!

YIKES! I need my foundation! At least I thought anyway. Terry and the MUA both insisted my skin didn't need it and instead used the tinted "primer elixer" to give my skin delicate coverage.

The final look is definitely something I wouldn't normally have done myself. In fact at first I was a bit unsure of it as it was BAM...colour on my eyes...BAM colour on my cheeks and BAM colour on my lips. All looked a bit too much for me but I loved the colours they used...just probably not all at once.
The purple on my lower lash line was very pretty indeed :)
Here is the look:
It's actually a lot brighter than shown in the photo above!

I had a ton of products used on me and whilst I would have loved to walk away with all of it I only bought the one product and of course that was the infamous "Baume De Rose".
Gosh it's lovely stuff!I'll write a proper review asap but first impressions are that it's something pretty special...
I wasn't too keen on the gel cleanser they used on my skin as it tingled a bit (I have quite sensitive skin) and the MUA struggled a bit to remove my Urban Decay liquid eyeliner with the products she was using.

But I really really loved the cream blush in no1 which gave a gorgeous glow to my skin. the only reason I didn't get it was the £39 price tag...ouch.

I did however, get a lovely goody bag which had a small By Terry make up bag stuffed with sample skin care products and a full size lip gloss which is very very nice. Not sticky, or too fragrant and a gorgeous colour for summer!
All in all I had a fantastic afternoon! My MUA was lovely, in fact all of the staff were and meeting Terry herself and having her do my make up was an amazing experience.

I would definitely recommend anyone to attend these events Space NK have. It truly was a great pampering and indulgent (champagne and macarons!) day which had me walking out of the store with a great big smile on my face!

Have you tried any By Terry products? Which one is your favourite?

NOTD: MINT CHOC CHIP

Quick nail of the day post for you and today it's Boots 17 Lasting Fix Nail Polish in "Mint Choc Chip".

It's a lovely cream polish veering more towards the blue than green...It looks a lot more vibrant on that it does in the bottle.

The brush on these polishes are a bit stubby but surprisingly got a streak free finish to them and three coats gave me decent coverage.

Has anyone else tried these Boots polishes? Any colours you would recommend?

LOVE AT FIRST SWIPE..IT MOST CERTAINLY IS! REVLON COLOURBURST LIPSTICK.

I have been absolutely dying to write this blog ever since they arrived in the post!

The new Revlon Colourburst lipsticks are SENSATIONAL.

Bold statement I know, but they absolutely 100% deserve this praise.

The texture and FEEL of these lipsticks is feather light...you forget you are wearing such pigmented colour and they literally feel like lip balm but with the colour intensity of lipstick. Not a glaze, or a tint...nope...proper lipstick. AMAZING.

I was sent 5 of these incredible lipsticks from Revlon and immediately fell in love with "blush". A gorgeous everyday colour that will compliment anything you wear. The perfect "go to" lippy for the day or when you have heavy eye makeup :)
Other standout colours for me was "fuchia". A beautiful bright and cheerful pink that's perfect for summer and a good alternative to my usual staple scarlet red. I would definitely suggest you all try this one out! It looks full on but it's a very lovely feminine pink.
Coral...this one I wasn't too sure with... However, once I applied it it actually was quite pleasantly surprising. Not a colour I would usually go for but nice to have :)
Plum is Jessica Alba's favourite. It looks quite gothic on but having once had an immense love for plummy gothic vampish colours, this one is definitely much more wearable than the likes of Mac's "Veruschka". I will be wearing this one a lot in the Autumn months!
Lastly...and I saved this for last as you all know I LOVE red...
"True Red" on first application didn't really sit with me! It's got a bit of orange in it you see. BUT! second try and I can see that this shade or red would be a great daytime, Summer red.
And here are swatches of all the colours:
These sleeky packaged lipsticks retail at £7.99 each with 12 shades available and should be in the stores very soon!

Which ones your favourite?

NOTD: NAIL'S INC/DIET COKE POLISH IN "LONDON"

Funny enough it was the boy that first spotted this nail polish offer!

We were in the tiny little Boots in Waterloo station and he was looking for a drink and came over to me with "London" clutched in his hand, complete with a very confused look on his face.
He'd found the polish in the fridge right next to the Diet Coke bottles and wanted an explanation!

See...I don't really drink fizzy drinks and was super excited when he brandished "London" in front of my eyes (he knows I like these kind of muddy shades)...

So two bottles of Diet Coke later and I am the proud owner it :P

Pleasantly surprised with the formula of this polish. Two coats was enough to give an even coverage and it's day two with no chips so far.

I might have to invest in the other colours if the offer is still going!

TESTING OUT A WATERPROOF TWO IN ONE SHADOW/LINER...

On my recent trip to NYC I picked up Tarte's EmphasEYES waterproof clay shadow/liner.

I spent a while debating between this one and Make Up Forever's waterproof liner and eventually went with Tarte because it was a more intense black and also came with a double ended brush.

I've been using this for a few weeks and here are my first impressions:

* Doesn't apply as smoothly as I would like...think this would be down to that Amazonian clay ingredient...
* A very deep intense black...did I mention INTENSE! Much more black than Mac's Blacktrack.
* Waterproof, great for the summer as it doesn't bleed.
*slightly cakey...can get a bit cracky if you know what I mean.

My usual go-to gel eyeliner has been Mac's fluidline in blacktrack and despite owning this Tarte one, I find myself returning back to blacktrack as it's much smoother to apply and allows me to get a sharp and clean edge to my signature "flicks".

Tarte's EmphasEYES is incredibly dark with a matte finish where as Mac's fluidline has a slightly shiny finish. (Tarte left, Mac right):
The brush that comes with the liner is double ended, with one end for eyeshadow application:
..and the other for precision eyeliner:
Am pretty impressed with this brush and it's great to get one that's not only full size, but also double ended.

However, that being said...I did try to use this as an eyeshadow as the intructions and website said would be possible but it's just a bit too cakey. I'll try again and let you know if I manage to make it work!

It's waterproof claim is pretty true to it's word. A splash of water isn't going to make this budge but I can't say how it would fair in a swimming pool full of chlorine!

Hmmm...a bit of a mixed review eh?

I like it...but I think my HG gel eyeliner would have the consistency of Mac Fluidline but with the deep intensity and waterproofness (not a word I know!) of Tarte's EmphasEYES *nods*

Maybe I should have got Make Up Forever's?

If anyone can recommend a gel liner that matches my criteria please PLEASE do let me know!

HAIR DYING TIPS...STRAIGHT FROM THE HAIRDRESSERS MOUTH

This evening I finally got round to a much needed haircut...well it was basically a trim...1 inch off in fact.

I am HOPELESS with my hair, which is why you probably never really see any reviews on hair products...I generally suck with hair. Even the boy says to me "you don't like brushing your hair do you?"...

Anyway, my hairdresser is one that comes round to cut hair having worked in many reputable salons over the years. He goes to the same gym as my folks so I get a good deal ;)

As he's snipping away we were discussing hair dye (I've recently gone a few shades lighter) and he commented that it was fading.

During our chat I learnt the following tricks of the trade:

* If you know your permanent hair dye has a tendency to fade, buy the semi permanent version too and use it an hour after, or a few days after, you've dyed it to give a more intense shade that lasts weeks longer.

* Wear a hat! Was his answer to "how do I protect my hair in the heat?"...or gel for curly hair.

* Colour bath = semi-permanent hair dye mixed with deep conditioner. Good for pre holiday he said.

* Redken products rock but their styling stuff sucks

Hmmm think that was all...am so sleepy I can't think very straight!

Am off to bed :)

If anyone can recommend some neat hair tips for the summer please share...would love to know!

SUPER SUMMERY LIP GLOSSES!

Revlon have really gone down the pastel path this Spring/Summer (yay!) with gorgeous pastel nail polishes and these delicious Super Lustrous Lipglosses which I was kindly sent:

Left to Right: Firecracker, Lilac Pastelle, Peach Petal

I'm not a huge lipgloss lass, favouring lipsticks any day...but that aside, I have grown quite attached to "Peach Petal". Its just a really nice creamy nude that works very well with my skintone. It's very flattering and compliments any type of eye make up incredibly well.

Firecracker is a subtle orange red...a lovely one for summer when red matte lipsticks might have to take a back seat for a bit!

Lilac Pastelle...I was so drawn to this colour but I don't think it works with my skintone...boo. It is a lovely creamy lilac that would definitely suit paler and cooler skintones.

Swatches below don't really do them justice but hope they give you a general idea:
What I really like about these glosses is the fact that these lipglosses have no taste or scent.
I think with glosses, taste and scent can be such a deal maker/breaker.
I personally deteste those sweet sugar laced ones...yuck!

I also love that they are not "tacky"...as in sticks your lips together. Another thing that normally grates me with lipglosses!

All in all I have been really impressed with Revlon lately. The colours they have brought out have been right up my alley and I heart my "Minted" nail polish SO SO much.
As a brand I really think they have brought out some really lovely affordable colours this year.

Revlon products are currently 3 for 2 at Boots so check these out if you get the chance, and if you already have them...what do you think of them?

I cannot WAIT to tell you all about the new lipsticks I was also sent (SO SO good!) and also the scented nail polish which I bought in NYC recently.

Watch this space lovelies!

YOU JUST HAVE TO GO SPOIL IT FOR OTHERS HUH?

I am SICK of getting horrible spammy comments on my blog from companies trying to flog porn or viagra.

COUPLE FRIENDLY SHOWER GEL...WE LOVE IT!

"WE" = The boy and I.

Oh yes, we love the new Grass shower gel by Lush SO much that I didn't even get the chance to photograph the bottle with any product in it!

As we often share shower gels we generally settle with the "Original Source Lemon shower gel" with the clean scent appealing to both of our noses. However, I sometimes find this gel quite drying so introduced the boy to "Grass" which he, dare I say, RAVED about.

It's a wonderfully CLEAN fresh scent that works very well for the mornings...VERY WELL. Although it contains neroli essential oil, this shower is definitely not a girly girl one.
It smells of freshly cut grass...a very "green" scent that's difficult to describe accurately...!

Another great thing about this product is the scent lingers.
If someones used it in the bathroom you will know about it and the boy is incredibly sniffable after he's used it. Bit like catnip for me!

Grass = WE LOVE IT!
More in this scent please! A solid perfume would be great!

What do you think of it? Post a comment and share :)
