NOTD: MAC EARTHLY HARMONY

I fell in love with this the moment I saw it. A dirty muddy mess of a nail polish but with the added elegance of a dash of sparkle...a nice change from the usual cream varieties no?

That is until you apply it...

Application was easy but getting the glitter particles to actually show up wasn't.

It's like paradoxal all over again. A lovely polish in bottle, but on application not so. The glittery bits are just too few and far between.

Another thing that bugged me was that this polish CHIPPED! I can usually go a whole 7 days without chips, just tip wear and this goes for cheap to rip off polishes! I owe it all down to my base coat (zoom nail eat and drink) and top coat (seche vite) and not using my nails as tools and marigolds to keep them covered when it comes to washing dishes ;)

ANYWAY...I digress. This post is a review so here are the photos:

To combat the chronic chipping I did a YSL and french tipped them in Eyeko's Military Nail Polish...a fantastic dirty green...these types of green are currently my favourite preferred shade of polish.

GUERLAIN & MARIE CLAIRE'S UGLY SIDE...

What is WRONG with people these days?

Are we not in the 21st Century?

Can we not accept each others differences and move on?

Today I read two articles which quite frankly digusted me.

Guerlain are in the process of being sued by French anti-racism groups after one of it's best known perfumiers made the following statement on French state tv:

"I worked like a n****r. I don't know if n****rs have always worked like that, but anyway."

I just don't understand racist remarks like these.
It makes me sad to think that there are still individuals out there who think such comments are acceptable. They aren't. Racism is not ok. It makes me sad that there are some people who cannot see beyond the colour of a persons skin. How can someone not accept another based purely on their ethnic background?

*sigh*

Another article that really got me reeling was Marie Claire's blog post entitled "should fatties get a room? (Even on TV)". It was a post that originally addressed US sitcom "Mike & Molly" which progressively turned into a bitch about obese people.

Maura Kelly (MC's official blogger) blogged the following:

"So anyway, yes, I think I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other ... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room"

Needless to say her offensive and inappropriate comments sparked a raging fire of fury with MC readers as well as celebs (Sharon Osbourne and Dita Von Teese to name a few)expressing their disgust.

I've never rated Marie Claire as a magazine and I'm really disappointed with the way they have handled this situation. What I want to know is how a blog post like this was allowed to be published in the first place? Are there no editorial policies in place? Will this blogger still keep her job? and WHY has no one taken the blog post down?!

It's bad enough that magazine pages are saturated with size 0 models and article after article about how to lose weight, and now we have to be subjected to filth like this?

It's not bloody acceptable Marie Claire!

You can read the offensive blog post here

Have you read these articles? What are your opinions? Leave a comment and let me know.

WHEN IN FRANCE, WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD ONE BUY?

This is the question!

I am off on another working day trip to France, alas not Paris this time but Lille.

If you regularly follow my blog you will know that I have been on several of these trips with barely a glimpse in a Sephora let alone a pharmacy! I am of course, working.

However, it's always best to be prepared and number one on my wish list is the Bioderma crealine H20. Does anyone know what stores stock it?

Are there any other French products you would recommend? Please please let me know!

WHEN PERFUME STINKS...

There are times when perfume just positively stinks and this evening it most certainly did.

There I was, minding my own business, sitting on the tube home when I catch the scent of familiarity. But NOT a good one. Oh no...the scent I caught was the scent of an ex. You see, many many years ago I use to date someone who's signature aftershave was Jean Paul Gaultier le male. This aftershave would permeate the air that surrounded him and a scent I very much relate to him. Needless to say whenever I am unfortunate enough to catch a whiff of this smell it doesn't conjure the fondest of memories, so yes...I really dislike "le male".

So this got me thinking...What other fragrances do I detest?

STELLA MCCARTNEY by Stella McCartney
I actually really like this perfume, my brother bought it for me one Christmas bless him. However, it also reminds me of a rather nasty and damn right BITCH of an ex manager who would keep this fragrance in her locker and spritz herself with it just before we all went out for work drinks. I positively LOATH the fact that whenever I smell this perfume it reminds me of that malicious individual. Some people are just not worth remembering...

BOUDOIR by Vivienne Westwood
My mum bought me the travel spray for when I went to live in New Zealand for a year. I had quite possibly my worst year to date when I was living there that I now associate this perfume with a very miserable time in my life.

So yes! Fragrance can absolutely STINK sometimes. If it's not an ex, it's an unreasonable COW...or a period of time that was wrought with unhappiness.

Those are mine...now what are yours? :P

NOTD: REVLON GREY SUEDE

This was the polish that Florence Welch wore to the Brit Awards many months ago and ladies...this is also a shade of polish that Edward Bess told me he absolutely LOVES on women as it makes the hands look elegant and the finger long and delicate.

Sooo on with the picture!

It's the polish of choice if you want minimalist chic and don't want obvious chips...

Me? I'm going to try this polish again but with dark tips...a great base for some nail art!

DAVINA PEACE EVENT - responsible luxury beauty range review

Yesterday I hopped my way to Mayfair to attend the launch of new British luxury beauty range, Davina Peace.
The event was held at the brands head quarters and upon arrival I was greeted with the welcoming scent of burning candles. A lovely delicate mixture of all three; inspired by Davina's memories of flowers, citrus fruits and spiced punch.
We were given a presentation on how the brand came about, the endless search for natural and responsible ingredients and packaging which whilst luxurious; didn't compromise on quality or ethics.
Davina Peace is a brand that takes immense pride and passion in natural and organic products with ingredients in the body care range comprising of 70% organic ingredients. Talking to Davina and her team you can tell how excited and how enthusiastic they are at accomplishing what everyone told Davina to be impossible:

"everyone told me that it wasn't possible to make natural and organic beauty products that are truly effective".

From the incredibly generous gifts I received to take home and try I can tell you now that she has without doubt, produced some wonderfully luxurious products.
Davina Peace Body cream £55 175ml
A super thick and rich cream that passes my "30 second rule", meaning it sinks into the skin in 30 seconds or less without any greasy residue. My ideal type of formula. Nourishing, toning and smoothing it's a lovely indulgent cream containing crambe oil, Davina's natural substitute to synthetic silicone.
The scent is predominantly geranium which some may find over powering but after initial application it becomes much more delicate.

Davina Peace Body Oil £45 100ml
Literally just used this straight after my bath this evening and what I love about this product is that the bottle has a clever little dispensing feature, allowing you to control how much comes out at one time...nifty!
I was expecting this body oil to be quite greasy...it is after all a body OIL..but was surprised to find that it sank into the skin quick and with ease without any greasy residue which again comes from the crambe oil ingredient.
The scent that stands out is geranium but it's much milder than the body cream.

Davina Peace Spiced Punch £36
I was soooo happy to see this particular candle in my gift box. I love spicy scents as you know from my previous review about Lush's "glogg" shower gel.
It reminds me of my all time favourite candle which is Diptyque's "Pomander", lovely log cabin with mulled wine smell....Mmmmmm. I shall be keeping this one for a very special occasion or a super cold winters night.

Myself with Davina:
All of the products are free from the following:
  • GMO ingredients
  • Parabens
  • PEGS (polyethylene glycol)
  • Phthalates
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Mineral Oil
  • Silicones
  • Products or any of their constituent ingredients that have been tested on animals

The Davina Peace range is available now from her website www.davinapeace.com and launches in Harrods on the 1st November. Go check them out :)

PRODUCT RAVE! CLARISONIC PLUS

I've read so many reviews about the Clarisonic...some people LOVED it, some folk complained that it was too harsh for their skin.
Either way, both types of reviews got me more and more intrigued by  this device that I leapt at the chance to try one out for myself.

I was sent the Clarisonic Plus which
comes complete with two types of brushes; one for the face and one for the body, three types of face cleanser for various skin types, one cleanser for the body and charging dock.
I've had it for over a month now and really wanted to put it to the test so have used pretty much every day.

I should state that my skin is sensitive/combination and I didn't have any problems at all with using it every day.
I have it on the default settings and it beeps every time you need to move the brush to a different area. Really useful especially if you're groggy in the morning!

I've definitely seen a great improvement to my skin. Mostly the way it feels more than anything as my skin is super soft and supple after using it. I've also noticed that my skin isn't as dry and flaky which it often is come Autumn.

The makers state that the Clarisonic cleanses 3 times more effectively than manual washing but I still found that I needed to tone afterwards to remove any residue left behind. This is after using the cleanser provided as well as the Aromatherapy Associates Renew Rose Cleanser (review to follow shortly!).

I also found that the brush didn't always dry which bugged me a bit as it would sometimes still be damp the following day.

All in all though I absolutely LOVE my Clarisonic. It's very effective at cleansing but it doesn't come cheap, starting from £150 from SpaceNK. However, that being said...what with Xmas round the corner it's one to definitely consider for the Xmas list!

To find out more visit the official Clarisonic website here

Many thanks to the PR team for sending me one for review!

MAC VENOMOUS VILLAINS HAUL

How was everyone's weekend? Hope you all had a good one!

Bit late in posting this one...I didn't think I would be getting much from the Mac Venomonous Villains collection but after I saw the nail polishes I just HAD to get two..which then became three...EEEP.
I also made an impulse purchase and got the lipstick "Innocence! Beware" which I think is really nice nude for my skintone...I'll upload photos tomorrow (too dark at the moment!).
What did you get?

INS & OUTS

Got a few this week!

INS

Xmas products

I am absolutely loving Lush's new Xmas goodies & flicking through the Boots Xmas catalogue. Both of which make me very happy. Aw for the little things!

Charity/Vintage finds

I have been hunting for the perfect white jug for an absolute age! You know those lovely shabby chic ones...finally found one for the bargain price of £4!

Brick Lane

I went there last Saturday & had a fantastic time. Again I love Brick Lane for their vintage shops but the atmosphere is so much fun. Definitely recommend visiting if you've never been.

Fancy dress parties

I've got two lined up! One is a Best of British one & another for Halloween. Can anyone recommend a good costume for the British one? Ideas would be most welcome!

Chocolate & beetroot brownies

Amazing combination! Don't diss it till you try it...

OUTS

Daylight savings

Am dreading the clocks going back. I really dislike it getting dark at 4.30pm. Super depressing.

The dentist

Just got back from the dentist after having a filling put back in. Really quite scared of going especially of the needle they inject you with. All started when one dentist accidentally injected me into my blood vein which resulted in an adrenaline rush & my heart beating rapidly. If that wasn't bad enough the second time she didn't load the injection properly!

X Factor

This ones not so much about the show as such but more about the sheer volume of bitchiness on Twitter every Saturday. Yes everyone is entitled to an opinion but is it really on to start laying into peoples physical appearances? Am no saint but come on! Look at yourself before you judge.

Cold weather

Am so so cold right now! The temperature in London has dropped really quickly & I've yet to find my winter coat...boo.

These are mine...now what are yours? :)

TOPSHOP CREAM EYESHADOW SWATCHES

I've noticed that a lot of the search keywords people have typed to get to my blog have been for "topshop cream eyeshadow swatches".
Only thing is...I don't have any on my blog. Bit disappointing if you've arrived hoping to see some eh?

SOOO on my way home I thought I'd better get swatching!

The cream eyeshadows are available in 6 shades with my personal favourites being "emerald" a gorgeous shimmery green, and "darkness" which I think could work for a nice smudgy grudge look ;)

Topshop also have some new nail polishes in with "utilitarian" on my want list. Unfortunately I think it will have to wait till next month as I did over indulge in Mac polishes last week...4 in total!

I also noticed that Barry M have a very VERY good dupe for Chanel's "Paradoxal" called "grey mauve". The shimmer particles look slightly larger which I think is a good thing as that lovely flash of violet might actually show up with this one! Again another one on my nail polish WANT list. I think I might have to get it tomorrow so I can do a comparison swatch for you...

WE'VE GOT TO GLOGG ABOUT IT! THE NEW LUSH XMAS SHOWER GEL

I was recently sent a box of Lush xmas goodies and one of the products I was super excited to try was the new "Glogg" shower gel.

You see come the festive season, I am very fond of mulled wine. It is one of my favourite things to indulge in at xmas and now it is one of my favourite things to indulge in whilst taking a shower!

Infused with cinnamon and cloves, Glogg is a wonderful cocktail of red wine, orange and spices...the scent is truly incredible smelling exactly like mulled wine.

I cannot get enough of it, especially first thing in the morning when your groggy and tired, it's the perfect remedy to really wake you up.

BUT! I'm not the only one who love this shower gel...

The boy has grown quite attached to it. In fact so much so that I can hear him sniffing away in the morning whilst taking his shower and today he even provided me with a quote for this post! (he's very very fond of Glogg)

Boy: "I think this is my favourite shower gel"

Me: "Oh? Whys that?"

Boy: *ponders a bit* "because it really makes you wake up and make you *boy opens his eyes wider to make them pop* I love the smell"

Me: "You know it's limited edition right? It's only around for xmas"

Boy: "I like the smell *sniffs again*. In fact I haven't come across a shower gel that I like THIS MUCH in ages"

Me: "so we will have to stock up before they sell out"

Boy: "I really like the smell...and you can blog about that"

Lush's "Glogg" shower gel is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

If you love spicy scents dash to your nearest Lush now and bag yourself one (or several!) of these.

NOTD: A TAKE ON THE YSL...

A few months ago YSL had a pop up manicure stall in London's Selfridges where they were creating amazing takes on the classic French mani...see image below:

Amazing no?

Anyway...last week I decided to do my own take on this look and came up with the following colour combination:

I am really pleased with how this turned out! I used Eyeko nail polish in "Rain" as the main colour and Zoya "Richelle" on the tips.
Definitely think I will be experimenting a bit more with this look :)

ONE PRODUCT FOR EASY SMOKY EYES!

I searched high and low for this product, so eager was I to get my hands on it. I think in total I visited about 8 different Boots stores to absolutely no avail. It was all sold out.

Thankfully the lovely Boots PR folk were kind enough to send me one and I can tell you all it was definitely worth the wait!

The product I am about to rave about is the No7 Smoky Eyeliner.
If you want to achieve a nice soft and smoky look with your eyeliner without the effort of blend blend blend, then this product is just PERFECT.
With the appearance of an ink well liner, the formula inside is in fact a super fine powder which you apply with the small unassuming sponge applicator. But this applicator is fab!

It grabs the powder with ease and there is very minimal fall out upon application which was a pleasant surprise. I tend to generally find that loose powder eyeliners are incredibly messy so was mighty impressed that this one wasn't.

The formula itself is a lovely highly pigmented soft black and blends like butter. It's only available in the one shade but I really hope Boots decide to make this a permanent addition to the No7 range as I would love to see this available in navy, plum, brown and a deep intense inky noir!

When it comes to application I find I get the best results when I apply the liner as close to the lash line as possible, smudging it with the applicator to make sure it really fills in the gaps between my lashes. You might also need to use your pinky to help smudge the lower lash line and soften it further :)

Check out the photo below to see the results:

If you can get your hands on this product do so!It's ease of use has made this a staple in my travel make-up bag.

If you're reading Boots...please please make this part of your permanent line. Without a double the best No7 product I have tried so far :)

EYEKO 10th ANNIVERSARY BLOGGERS EVENT!

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to be invited to Eyeko's 10th anniversary party!

If you don't know about the brand, Eyeko is a British company with super kawaii products in adorable packaging. Their range is fun and girly, with a wide range of affordable make-up and skin products which are quite unique to the UK drugstores.

They have a fab website which you can visit here.

The event started in the evening and by the time I arrived there was already a long line of bloggers queuing to get in.

Inside the venue, complete with light up dance floor (!) we were greeted with a fantastic goodie bag, delicious cupcakes and the chance to get a manicure, make-over and our fortune told by the tarot card reader...!

Check out the photos below:

Amazing cupcakes...I went for the red velvet ;)

Was great to see the nail polishes as I can never seem to find all of them when I look in stores...loving the "military" dark green polish:
Eyeko creams! I've heard lots of good things about this product. They now have a limited edition copper toned one too:
It was great to catch up with beauty blogger Peonies & Lillies again:
She was far braver than me when in came to having her tarot cards read. I think wayyy to much so putting more thoughts into my head would just cause me to question everything! So nope...I didn't have mine read but apparently the reading was quite accurate...spooky!

We also got to meet Nina, Eyeko's founder who gave us a sneak peak at the new products. I stupidly didn't take any photos but I am particularly looking forward to the jumbo lip pencils...the packaging is super cute!
Nina is incredibly passionate about Eyeko and it was great to have her explain the products to us and take time out to get meet everyone.

BIG thanks to the Eyeko team, in particular Ling, for inviting me to celebrate with you!  HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY!
Keep an eye out for some Eyeko reviews which will appear on this blog very soon..and if you do stop by the website you can use my code to get a free gift :) www.eyeko.com

NEW LUSH PRODUCTS FOR XMAS 2010

One of the things I always look forward to at Xmas is the launch of the new Lush products.
Having worked part time at Lush when I was a student at uni, each year was always an exciting one. Waiting for the boxes to arrive and setting up the displays and seeing the customers reactions to the new products was always eagerly anticipated.

Now, 10 years on since I left (!) I still get excited about discovering the new products the Lush team have come up with for each Xmas.

This year Lush release new bath ballistics:

Winter Bath - contains warming ginger and clove essential oils with soya milk to soften the skin.

Am pretty sure "So White" is new too but don't have photos of it...

Bubble Bars: These are the products you crumble under running water for a multitude of bubbles!

Bearded Lady - A banana, oat milk & avocado concoction. Doesn't really resemble a bearded lady, but then who would want it to? Am liking the sound of this one...banana bubbles? Mmmm!

Gingerbread House - Packed full of ginger with a dash of lemon. If it smells of gingerbread then I am onto this! Think this is one of those I will have to sniff before committing to...looks super cute though!
Lush sugar exfoliator:

Sugarplum Fairy - I imagine this one to be of classic Lush sweetness, but the description on the website says it's a nutty plum scent..hmmm am curious. Another to be sniffed in person me thinks...
Lush soaps:
Madarin's Tea Party - this envokes Red Rooster for me...but a more delicate one as it has one of my favourite essential oils "neroli" in it. Looks really pretty hey! Just make sure you get an orange slice in your piece :)
Snowglobe - Dunno why but the white bits look like mother of pearl buttons to me! A citrus soap with grapefruit, lemon myrtle and ylang ylang.

Lush lip balms:
Snow Fairy - bubble gum flavoured lip balm and super girly at that. Am disappointed that there is no "Let them Eat Cake" this year as the scent was incredible.

Maple Taffy - I love the word "taffy" and this one will definitely be in my shopping bag! I loveeee maple syrup so can't wait to try this :)

Massage Bar:
Once a Year - Brandy scented massage bar...yes please! I definitely want this one.
Lush Shower Gels:
Glogg - Mulled Wine shower gel! I can't get enough of mulled wine at XMas so taking a shower in one is a definite MUST for me. Super excited to try this.
Iced Wine - Am not overly keen on the shower jellies but this is Canadian Iced Wine...it's got me curious for sure.

Lastly...Buche de Noel...skincare for Xmas
It's got brandy to stimulate the skin, satsumas and cranberries...mmm like an Xmas cake for your face :) I love Angels on Bare Skin so chances are I will like this...

So yes! That's it for the new xmas products! Am going to head to my local Lush asap and check these out in person...reviews to follow soon!

Visit the Lush website for full info & prices
